I think Xanax works great taking it along with an antidepressant. Right now I am currently taking 2 mg of Xanaz along with 20 mg of Celexa. I believe it has helped me out it so many ways. I used to have anxiety and panic attacks pretty much all day, or part of the day that I was awake. I haven't felt this good about myself in a long time. Sometimes I would get a panic attack just from walking in a public place, such as a supermarket, and then came the heavy breathing and the nervous feeling out of nowhere. But the Xanax put all the feelings to rest. I know it's a narcotic and it can be abused and it also can cause dependency. But if used the right way I know it can work for some of the worst conditions of depression.
Im 31 and have been living with Anxiety and Panic attacks since I was 19. Ive tried the Wellbutrins and Zolofts over the years but the side effects were brutal. I have a VERY stressful and high end/demanding sales job with many face to face meetings and presentations. I almost lost my job because I would start having a panic attack in the middle of meetings. My DR. gave me a RX for .25's a few years ago. I took them and they helped, but stopped because everyone told me I would get dependent on them. DONT listen to other people, everyone is different and everyone has different tolerances and addictive personalities. This is the ONLY RX ive tried that doesn't make you feel "drugged" and you can actually function normally. Ive never felt like ive been addicted to them and it is comforting to know I have them when I need them. Point blank they work, dont increase your own dosage and dont drink with them...if you get anxiety attacks or panic attacks, and you feel like you cant even walk into a restraurant, Xanax can help you....and they work quick and last a good amount of time. I believe people who get addicted to them increase there own dosage or abuse them. If you think they have stopped working, unless your a DR., go see one!! If your DR. was understanding enough to prescribe them to you, he/she will listen and help. I hope this has helped others out there with the horrible disease...most of all never give up and think positive. Your not alone, there are more of us out there than you think!!!
I use generic Xanax for panic disorder and anxiety; 1 mg each night. This dosage is enough to get me through a normal day just fine. I take an extra fourth of a tablet during the day during stressful moments, such as when I am in a vehicle with someone else driving and I feel loss of control. A great side effect is I get 8 hours of sleep each night, although it makes me dream a lot. If I am under stress, sometimes the dreams are a litle intense, but coming from a family where ALL of us suffer from insomnia, this has been the perfect drug for me. I have been taking it for some time, and have always followed doctor's orders regarding its use.
Useful medication I've suffered from GAD with other OCD type symptoms for many years. Along with an SSRI, I was prescribed Xanax immediate release to be used PRN or as necessary. Later I was put on a standing dose up to 2mg daily. The "kicker" out of this whole situation is that I'm a physician myself, and know very well how these medications work. My psychiatrist is an excellent one, and decided last year to slowly taper me off the Xanax by switching me to 2 mg Xanax XR daily. I'm now down to between 0.5mg-1mg Xanax daily without any significant side effects. Since I have a lot of self control, but suffer from severe anxiety, I anticipate using xanax at a low dose when needed. It is a noble drug that works well when used appropriately.
I love Xanax. I wish I could take it daily but my doctor won't prescribe it to me for daily use, because she doesn't want me to get addicted to it. I only take Xanax on rare occasions, when I was extremely distraught. It made me feel better instantly. I've only taken 25 mg, but that was more than enough to make everything seem great. I was aware that my problems still existed, but I wasn't overwhelmed by them. It made me feel warm and happy. I've taken other drugs before and Xanax is by far, the best choice.
